Can't Believe Free Vst Reaper Spectrum
MIDI Drums in Reaper for beginners
Oz 16 May 2019 at 15 h 38 min. Actually, 32-bit dlls DO work on 64. It depends on the VST Host. DAWs like Reaper does very well at supporting both 32 and 64bit VST’s. Also, a side note: Please consider addressing people with respect.
Spectrum analyzers are from no help for fine audio tuning. They can only display obvious problems. The best I know is the free SPAN from VOXENGO. But keep in mind that your computer display is only refreshed at 60 Hz, and a fine FFT needs more than 32000 samples to be accurate in low frequences. EQ560 based on the 1967 classic. The 10-Band graphic equalizer features precision filtering and high headroom, ideal for signal enhancement. The curve shaping potential is unmatched, while unique «Proportional Q» design intuitively widens the filter bandwidth at lower boost/cut levels and narrows it at higher settings. Digital: EMT built on the popularity of the EMT 140 plate reverb with another world first in 1976: the EMT 250 digital reverb unit. However, it was the arrival of the Lexicon 224 a couple of years later, followed up by the 480L in 1986, that took digital reverb into virtually every professional studio, and it’s the Lexicon name – and sound – which is now cemented in our minds as the.

Any help appreciated!
I am trying to ease myself into MIDI. I'd like to be able to play drums, specifically. I was just watching a video for midi in Reaper and it was basic but was actually making sense. EXCEPT. I started following her tutorial and it says that DXI Cakewalk TTS-1 was built in under instruments and it's not in my Reaper! This video is from 2015. So obviously, things must have changed.
Anybody have a recommendation on where I could get that TTS-1 or have a different free way for me to play drum patterns in Midi through Reaper?
I have ZERO experience with MIDI other than a couple videos I've watched. I just want to be able to create rhythms and fills that go with my songs instead of having to write around some other loop I have no control over.
Thanks in advance!@pipewrench67Feb 2020
2 pretty decent drum kits to use
A rock kit (you can tone it down by lowering velocity) http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?..
More all around
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?..
I haven't tried this one yet
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?..
Download these open then and put them in you User plug-ins folder (you might have to make one) [programs>reaper>User plug ins] You will have to refresh your vsts under preferences for reaper to recognize them.
Once loaded add a channel click the FX button click add your vsts should show click what you want to add. insert a new midi on the same channel (make sure you have a time selection region on the project) click on the new midi track this should bring up a piano roll editor.@vomvortonFeb 2020
Here's a really good free drum instrument plugin that'll work in Reaper - not sure if you have experience of installing plugins or not, but if not then there should be plenty of tutorials for that online too (generally it just involves dropping a file into the right folder, then Reaper will scan it on startup).
https://www.powerdrumkit.com/
(edit: this is the same link as the second one in the post above)@wachaFeb 2020
I run into the same issue. I have been able to program some very simple beats that I use for a click but really struggle beyond that, I would love to be able to learn more but whenever I start it feels overwhelming and I give up.
@kovbleuFeb 2020
Thanks @pipewrench67 and @vomvorton! I really appreciate it. @wacha - I know - it's like on one hand it should be easy and on the other hand it seems impossible to figure out. lol Granted. I should try learning this stuff OUTSIDE of February but here we are. haha
@owlFeb 2020
@kovbleu @wacha I know next to nothing about this, but have semi-recently discovered the joys of using MIDI drums to make my demos, and it's been so much better than just playing to the Reaper-generated click (which I have always hated).
I love the MT Power Drum Kit that both @vomvorton and @pipewrench67 linked, and donated to them after using it for a bit and finding it super helpful. I like that it lets you generate loops of a certain number of bars, and the way it breaks them down by style e.g. 8th notes with open hats in 4/4, straight.
I ended up buying EZDrummer later, and I like the actual drum sounds in that better (since there are a lot of actual choices of kit!) but I still like the beats and groove builder in MT Power Drum Kit better, they tend to have a lot of straightforward bread-and-butter kind of beats while a lot of the ones built into EZDrummer seem to be more complicated, which is maybe more interesting but less versatile.@owlFeb 2020
Sometimes I will use MT Power Drum Kit to build the beat and then apply an EZDrummer kit on the actual track.
Also, this is a drum sampler you can load up with samples
https://decomposer.de/sitala/
Reverb.com has a bunch of them here for free, for instance:
https://reverb.com/software/samples-a..
--map the samples to the keys (or use the built-in defaults) then you can play the beats you want with the corresponding keys on your MIDI controller.
Other random tips of stuff you can do to help:
- turn on quantization in your recording (sometimes this works for me, sometimes not so well)
- use MIDI overdubs so you don't have to play all the drums at once, you can just put in your hihats and then go back and put in your kick, and then go back and put in your snare, etc.
- use the piano roll to draw in notes or nudge them around as needed@pipewrench67Feb 2020
Damn, that's a lot of words @owl.
Thanks for the reverb drum machine link will probably download later.@owlFeb 2020
@pipewrench67 'that's a lot of words'--man, if I had $1 for every time someone has said that to me..
@ayehahmurFeb 2020
Like @owl I use MT Power Drum Kit, and mostly - for the purposes of demos anyway, I just use their preprogrammed patterns and build up a song's worth like Lego. Gets me most of the way to where i need to be anyway.
@kirjisFeb 2020
@kovbleu Check out this standard MIDI drums-to-keyboard mapping; most drum instruments conform to it and if you map drums yourself, it's a good starting place, so drums will always play the same on your keyboard. Of course you don't HAVE TO conform, you can map them however you wish. You could have two of the same drums mapped to keys next to each other, for example, so you can play faster passages easier.

When cakewalk was sold to band lab, that probably cut it from being offered in Reaper. You could dl cakewalk and get it that way and cakewalk has lots of features which reaper does not like notation editing
@kirjisFeb 2020
@scottlake Reaper does have notation editor, maybe from version 5, I don't know. It's now 6 something.
@keithcutsFeb 2020
@kovbleu there is a sequencer that comes with reaper. It's one of the many treats included with reaper. It is called 'sequencer megababy' As with most reaper stuff there are tutorial videos available for free on youtube. Yes you will need a minute to learn it but its not hard. Good luck! ken gioia I believe is the narrator and he will have you cranking out drum patterns in no time
@mikebFeb 2020
For after FAWM, I suggest you look at EZDrummer 2, it offers a great selection of drum beats/rhythms, including many that are multiple bars long, so it avoids the single bar repetition problem inherent in early drum programs. Just 'drag and drop', but easy to customize, either in the EZ Drummer plug-in window, or in MIDI.
@songsvilleFeb 2020
There are few tricks to playing drums on the keyboard or 'finger drumming' as they call it. Ghost notes for example. This video was helpful to me:

EZDrummer is the most important music software I have ever bought.
My typical order:
Write lyrics out for song
Decide on tempo and feel
Audition drumming styles in EZDrummer 5 minutes
Drag intro, verse, prechorus chorus verse bridge outdo sections onto EZDrummer navigator bar 5 minutes
Record all my instrumentation other than drums. (Varies)
Record vocals (varies)
Mix down (varies)
The whole drum process takes me 15 minutes max and the drums sound fantastic, expertly played and recorded, and no farting around with a grid or anything.
Easily the best music software buy I have ever made for workflow and time savings and quality of output.@kirjisFeb 2020
It would be just wrong not to mention the Drummer included in Apple Garageband and Logic. It's just insanely good. If I could have that in Reaper, I could die happy. However, I didn't want to be locked into Apple ecosystem, I'm not rich and things are just great for me at the moment with Linux, thank you very much.. but Drummer is Really Very, Very Good.
@seemanskiFeb 2020
@vomvorton, thanks for sharing that. I can't believe how good that is considering it is free (although I will probably donate). I had ezdrummer lite but never upgraded because it's too pricey.
@vomvortonFeb 2020
@seemanski I think EZDrummer is a bargain tbh, especially if you upgrade during a sale - I've used it on the vast majority of the songs I've written in the last decade, definitely got plenty of value for money out of it!
@seemanskiFeb 2020
Yeah the lite version was pretty decent when I used it and it gave you a taster of the groove features. I'll keep an eye on the sales. It is currently about £100, which is a bit expensive for me. That said I suppose that's the equivalent to 2 ps4 games in this day an age. I'll ponder this further and watch out for the sales. Long shot, but do you recall what time of year you spotted the sale @vomvorton?
@vomvortonFeb 2020
@seemanski nope, it was literally ten years ago, but I'm sure I've seen them do Black Friday offers etc. All the money I've saved from not buying a console since the Gamecube has been ploughed into VSTs, haha.
@seemanskiFeb 2020
@vomvorton, unfortunately I did the opposite. At least your choice of retail therapy has some return on investment 😋. I seriously doubt I will be picking my controller to play all those games again or even play them in the first place in some cases.
@kovbleuFeb 2020
So much great feedback and help here! Thanks so much everyone! I appreciate it so much and I'm going to dive into learning this as soon as possible. It's something I've been wanting to try a long time.

Remember too, you can create beat tracks in Reaper itself using their effects. Cockos.com has a great Reaper forum for such things.
Sometimes(very often!) we need to add effects on our voice recording. To make it sound better, to make it sound thicker, or just to maker it sound incredible!
For widening/thickening, or making choir like voices, you can use : chorus, voice multiplier, voice doubler, stereo wideners.
For radical changes or special FX, you can use harmonizer / pitch changing, genre changer, pitch correction / autotune.
Here’s a top 5 of free VST effects for changing the voice :
EQ560 VST Free (Win) v1.0.2. I can't believe it's free!! I have used long time ago the WAVES api EQ and this one is no less good. SA60 Real Time Spectrum. It's easy to find a million free VSTi's and blogs, but hard to sort through. Here's a few that are proving helpful to me: DrumTroop - nice for trap music Upright piano (versillian studio) everything by DSK Orion sound module - some bread and butter stuff Tone 2 firebird - synth Helm - synth Synth1 - some nice synth sounds Lord of the springs - modeled sounds Redtronse - mellotron.
1) Azurite multi voice chorus VST
This great chorus can work on many type of sources : guitar, voice, etc.
It works nicely for voice, it’s not too hard/harsh and does a good job on mono inputs for spreading voices and give a stereo effect.

Voice with chorus!

2) ADT – Artificial Double Tracking
This VST has no GUI
When you can’t record two takes for doubling your voice, you can gor for the artificial double tracking technic! The Beatles did it, and now you can too.
Voice doubling ahs never been so easy.
Download here : http://www.vacuumsound.de/plugins.html
3) Emonizer Micro Pitch Shifter effect
Emonizer VST
This free VST effect is intended for thickening, it’s a “one trick pony”, it’s in fact a micro pitch shifter, that add detuned voices, it creates a wider sound. Works also for other sounds than voice! Vst plugin piano one.
download it now ! => http://music.service-1.de/html/wok_emonizer_vst_micro_pitch.html
4) g200kg KeroVee & roVee
Here we go now for a more radical effect !
With this one you can change the nature/type/genre of the voice, make it from female to male, or from female to male. KeroVee is a pitch correction plugin, it can also do the “autotune” effect.

5) ag-works chorus ch-2
Chorus CH-2 VST
Here, at Wavosaur, we love the monstachorus VST by Betabugs, but i thought the Chorus CH-2 is lesser known, and deserve some exposure. It’s like having 4 independant chorus you can tweak in parallel.
